About me
Based in Dalkeith, Midlothian, but will happily travel anywhere in the Lothians or Borders in my role as a handyman.
I have lived and worked in the East of Scotland area all my life.
As a teen I started my working life with Midlothian District Council parks department. At 18 I was enrolled as a Craftsman gardener / Horticulturist at Oatridge agricultural college for 3 year completing the course with full credits.
After a further 3 years in house training I proved mature enough and in being offered a charge hand gardeners position with my employer.
Working with a team, I soon gained a vast experience in the delicate art of man management and all types of soft and hard landscaping tasks from simple maintenance tasks up to greenhouse management, landscaping projects and construction and maintenance of playground equipment in the Midlothian area.
As a helping hand at weekends and during holidays. I often worked with a local builder.
He inspired me with his knowledge on home electrical issues, joinery, decorating, plumbing, attic conversions, kitchen installations, shower installation, installing windows / doors, conservatories, heating issues the list goes on.
I picked up on his knowledge along with working with various other tradesmen he employed on jobs. I soon found myself confident enough in completing some major home improvements not only on my home but on friends and families homes too.
I left the parks department to work for the next 18 years with Scottish water learning a wide range of skills from basic water & drainage repairs up to substantial internal & external advanced projects in domestic homes and business premises that required my handyman knowledge skills in dismantling and rebuilding gardens, along with numerous internal building jobs too, such as joinery, painting, re-laying floors etc.
I progressed further into major construction such as laying of new water and sewage lines on main highways, deep excavations and shoring up with timber, tunnel repairs in Edinburgh's sewer systems, construction of brick and ring concrete manholes, retaining walls both water and land. Reinstatement of paths, public walkways and highway surfaces from simple woodland walkways, cobble or old town specialist flag stones including A road grade tarmac completion.
During this period I have always had a hands on approach and soon found myself quite proficient in most tasks involving repairs not only on my friends and families homes but with my employers too.
Developing a variety of skills to suit most home improvement / repair requirements.
I started self employment in 2002 mainly as a Landscape gardener but often found that my customers asked if I knew of anyone that would hang some doors, do some painting or box in old pipe work etc.
Needless to say I knew the very man for the job.
